March 3–6, 2026
Proud to have been part of the 6th European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) Conference 2026, dedicated this year to the topic of "Citizen Science: Bridging Centre and Periphery."
This year, we organized a roundtable exploring how citizen science can contribute to reconfiguring health systems from the ground up, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe and underserved communities. This conversation takes place in a broader context where major health inequities persist across Europe, particularly in the prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular conditions.
Our discussion brought together insights from several EU-funded projects — 4P-CAN, CAREWAY, FH-EARLY, MAYA, PERFECTO, CURTAIN, EU-CIP and ECHoS — examining how participatory approaches, social network analysis, behavioral science, and community engagement tools can help strengthen prevention and health literacy.
A central topic of the discussion was the Living Lab established in Lerești (Romania) within the 4P-CAN project, where residents collaborate to co-develop personalized cancer prevention pathways.
It was inspiring to exchange ideas with participants from the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Finland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and beyond, all working toward more inclusive and community-driven models of health and prevention.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this conversation and to the ECSA community for creating a space where centre and periphery can truly meet.
